If the only thing that matters to her is her success. Therefore there is not much to live for when she realized that success as she envisioned became unattainable.

I think it is part of the problem of Chinese education, everyone good at testing taking has developed a delusion thinking that he/she is a born genius the chosen one to do great things in his/her life.
