我有必要把原车主的车牌还回去吗？原车主的车有很多故意隐藏的毛病，他有责任赔偿修理费用吗？

我跟私人买了一部二手车，开了两天，check engine light is on, 一查，有4 个 codes，主要是两个问题。其中一个问题有几种可能的原因，他已经把一些简单的地方都换过了，但是，一个主要部件比较贵，他没换，所以问题还在。并且，车上的钟也不对了，所有这些，说明他卖之前，断了电池，reset 了 check engine light, 故意隐藏了车的问题。

他卖车的时候，没有把车牌拿下来，当时是说，等到星期一的时候，他来取车牌。但是，星期一早上，check engine light 就亮了，所以他没有来。

我请修车厂修好一个问题，还有一个问题没修好。周末跟他要修车的费用，他不给。他现在要倒打一耙，说要告我偷他的车牌，除非我把车牌送到他几十英里以外的地方。他还说，他下星期要搬到外州去了。我有必要这么做吗？我觉得一点必要都没有。但是，我怕自己不懂法，所以想听听各位大拿、专家的意见。

我现在还用他的车牌，等修好了，再买掉。
