if you use just the brakes, not only wear your brake pads quickly, the extreme heat could destroy the hub bearings along with the brake calipers. in an extreme condition, it could cause fire; the brake hoses could be burned and you loose braking completely - you put yourself in a life threatening situation.

don't know if these guys are real mechanics.
