Toyota Camay 2000 Check engine light on

I have a Toyota Camry 2000 (150K). Recently the check engine light is on. So I went to Monro.
They checked and found the code P0401. So they changed the EGR, VSV and some other thing.
But after I drive the car for 20 miles, the light came back again.
I went back to them and they spent another hour to fix the problem.
However,after I drive for 10 miles, the light came back again.
Now this time they asked me to leave my car in Monro for a few days.
Today they called me and told me that the computer inside the car cannot read
the codes appropriately. So they suggested that I go to a dealer.
If you have any good suggestions, please kindly let me know. I really appreciate it.
