汽车外钢板越厚越安全..is common sense, which means statistically hold.  There are exceptions.
but it's not 误区。  it's 常识。
i don't see that Toyota fan use DATA/STATISTICS to refute the point.
I'd bet s/he received 0 training in statitstics, and all s/he knows how to spell "STATISTICS".
