Runflats are only required because the OEM is not giving you a spare tire.  (Spare tire is a pretty bad idea anyway since nobody ever fills them and they are flat too when you need them.)  And Acura happened to choose this specific PAX system that requires specific wheels and inserts (it's one of the earlier (old) runflat systems).

Since they are pricing themselves out of business, then my current 1st recommendation will be to forget about this car.  There are a lot of luxury cars that don't need $2000 shoes, (and frankly just about all of them are better than the RL IMHO).

However, if you truly like the car, there are ways to get around this problem.  Like I said, $1200 can get you a set of wheels and tires.  Just buy the regular ones (from tirerack, they will come installed ready to bolt on), then buy yourself a compact tire repair kit (fix-a-flat + small pump) -- no kidding, this is becoming a popular OEM solution (check the latest Cadillac CTS), or just buy a spare tire from the non-technology model (as long as it fits in your trunk still, it should).  You can also buy other types of runflat tires to go on normal wheels.  Those tires are more expensive, but still beats the PAX system installed at the dealer.

If you take either these routes, you can sell the original wheels.  And from then on, you won't need to pay anywhere near $2000 for a tire change anymore in the future.  Then maybe you can live with this car.  Then again, is this car worth all that :-)
