You also need a big C clamp to push piston behind pads. You can get life time warranty pads from Autozone.

It is better to open bleeder valve to let old fluid out instead of pushing old fluid back to master cylinder.

Just let most of old fluid out from bleeder valve, do not let master cylinder dry, otherwise you will introduce air bubbles in break line. You will have to bleed whole system.
