In between these 2 things, there are intake, exhaust manifold. If you do not open these up, the flow still gets restricted.
Mods are expensive, I do not think you will save money by doing these. The amount of gas injected to engine is also calculated by computer. You need to reprogram your EPROMPs as well if you want to go that route.
