DOWNEY - A person died in a traffic crash early today in Downey and police were trying to figure out how the death occurred.

Trouble was reported at 12:49 a.m. at Imperial Highway and Lakewood Boulevard and initial calls indicated a vehicle sheared a fire hydrant, a Downey police desk officer said.

Police then found a deceased person on the road, a damaged Porsche sport utility vehicle nearby, and water flowing from the sheared hydrant, camera crews at the scene reported.

The investigation was continuing.
