A member of Toyota's technical investigation team said the front brakes showed severe wear and damage from overheating but the rear brakes and parking brake were in good condition. The car's computer diagnostic system showed that the accelerator and brake had been applied in rapid succession at least 250 times during the high-speed drive on Interstate 8.
