As I explained, the deadly accident happened when the driver just want to accelerate. In normal driving conditions you press the gas pedal for a while then ease on it when you achieve your goal. But if the pedal stuck the car will keep accelerate.

When you brake, the car may slow down. But the ECM will keep the throttle open. Eventually the brake will wear out. In normal driving condition, when you brake the car is not accelerating. The brake can simply reduce the momentum. But when the car is accelerating, the brake also needs to work against acceleration.
