Not working probably

the article written by another driver said that when he had the issue on avalon, he moved the gear to n, no effect at all; he tried to put the lever to any other positions, didn't work. he tried to shut down engine, no avail. finally he pressed the gas pedal all the way to floor, when released, the gear on n suddenly worked.
