I changed mine at a much lower cost

On my first car, 10 years ago. The clutch was repaired by a very small private shop, @ 200 - 300 bucks (can't remember exactly). It was ok after that and finally I sold the car to my boss :)upon graduation(seems no complain till now).

$3000 is way too high, more like a transmission change.

Did you change you transmission oil after 3 years?
