Bring license, registration & proof of insurance, and make sure they are valid.
Check all light bulbs.
Remove license plate frame if any.
Change oil if deemed necessary.
Make sure the inspection is not expired.
Do an inspection anyway if necessary.
Check and see if tires still have good amount of tread left.
Inflate the tires.
Bring water and Tylenol.

In case you are pulled over by a cop, remember your civil rights. No warrant, no search, and you have the right to remain silent (don't argue with a cop).
