The only thing you might need to do -

You might need to change the timing belt for your car if it has not been done yet. That is ony $300 including timing belt, water pump and labor.

You can go to autozone buy an auxilary belt ($15) and hand it to the mechanic, asking him to use this new belt when you put auxilary belt back on (no lobor for this step).

You can find a small shop (but reputable) to do all these for $300.

Other things like spark plugs, transmission fluid and so on, you can have your friend, your bf (hu*****and if married) do it, very simple.
