Actually depends on your situation.

If you have money for a new (or newer) car and there is no much life in this vehicle, and you don't have a claim in the past 5 years, maybe it is time to move on.

You can make a claim with the insurance company, get the check, buy a newer/better car with the check, then switch to a different insurance company and lock into a low rate before the collision record is available to the insurance companies.
