Question about my 2006 VW Jetta

Hi

I bought a second-hard 2006 VW Jetta yesterday. Today when I was waiting in traffic, I found that the instrument panel didn't really reflect the gear the car was driving in and for a while all the letters (P D R etc) were highlighted.

Please advise.
