求教关于租车事故的处理

8月份租车出去玩，在外州被Hit&Run，当时叫了警察，打了Hertz的电话报告
后来还车的时候赶时间交了车钥匙付了租金就走了
后来一直没消息以为大公司不care
今天收到账单charge 770多刀
问题是我当时也没有sign damage acknowledgment
他们没证据charge我吧？仅从手续上讲的话
