For your first-degree approximation argument, I agree with that. But that's not what some other people here would lead you to believe. That's why I've said it several times that peak hp only correlates with acceleration, it doesn't have a causality effect. A basic example of correlation vs. causality: Roosters cuckoo at dawn and the sun rises. That's correlation, not causality. You probably understand this all as well as I do, but you choose to be vague about it, and vague information can be misinterpreted. I want to be precise. Precise information may not be understood (as demonstrated here), but it leaves no room for misinterpretation.
The point also is not whether we calculate performance times all day long. Somewhere, someone does that, they are the engineers designing the cars. I bet they start out with the torque curve as I do, in their computer software.
As a matter of fact, I've coded up my formulas into an Excel spreadsheet already. Took me just an hour. It's a toy model because of all sorts of simplifications, but the numbers make sense. I've modeled up a 911 Carrera in it. If there's enough interest, I can find a way to make it available.
