Leonlz99, carcrazier pls help

My 01 Prizm LSI (57K miles) burns 1.5 quart oil every 1000 miles. I ususally drive on highway at 3200rpm. I read some posts on edmunns.com and looks like oil burning is not un-usuanl for this car, but mostly for those have high mileage.
My question is:
1.Is it necessary to get this checked by a mechanic or it is ok to go like this and top off oil frequently?
2.What do you think it gonna cost to have this fixed, I mean a range,roughly.
3.Will it be helpful if switch from 5W30 to 10W30?
