Do not comment about his clothing or appearance.

If he likes the jacket, let him wear it. The reason you gave for not wearing it makes him less confident about himself.

Eat less carb (rice, wheat, or sugar), more veggies. Fruit to substitute sweat. Small dinner. American breakfast, no Chinese leftovers.

Children's version of the Bible that suites his reading level. Not for religion, but knowledge and wider horizon. Be less intimidated by the worldly stuff.

You got a good kid. Be proud of him. How you see him has an effect on how he sees himself.
