Synopsis of a recent WSJ article

SAT is not very useful for high performance ethnicities.  It doesn't affect you.

SAT is quite good to diffenentiate underrepresented minorities (URM).  They are from inner city schools and elite high schools.  The GPAs and extracurricular activities are not comparable.  SAT is a simple across the spectrum indicator for math aptitude.  The elite STEM universities have certain percentage reserved for URM students.  SAT just might help them to choose the best URM students.
