New Christmas book depicts black Santa and his husband

Santa has left Mrs. Claus for a mister in a new children’s book, “Santa’s Husband,” in which a black Santa is married to a white Mr. Claus.
Written by “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” writer Daniel Kibblesmith, the book debuted Oct. 10 and shows an interracial Claus couple living their lives in the North Pole, vacationing on the beach, getting married and working together to prepare for the Christmas season.
The idea for the book came from a tweet Kibblesmith wrote in December 2016, saying “Me and @JenAshleyWright (his now wife) have decided our future child will only know about Black Santa. If they see a white one we’ll say ‘That’s his husband.’”
Illustrator AP Quach tweeted immediately after, “boom. new children’s book.”
The book was, in part, inspired by Megyn Kelly’s comments on her Fox News show in December 2013 where she vehemently said that Santa was white in response to an article claiming that Santa shouldn’t be white anymore because that excludes non-white children.
Kibblesmith told Motherboard in November that his publishers sent Kelly the book and he is willing to go on her new daytime show to talk about it, but they haven’t heard from her yet.

He said the response to the book has either been overwhelmingly positive or one-star reviews on Amazon.
“It really is a quantifiable version of 'everybody either loves it or hates it.' There isn't a lot of in-between. That being said, more people seem to love it than hate it,” he said.
Despite the one-star reviews, which range from “brainwashing children with degeneracy” to “just don’t,” there is little — beyond the gay interracial Santas — that can offend people.
“We were very careful not to have anything offensive in the book,” Kibblesmith said. “The only way you can find the book offensive is if you find the premise offensive, which, we see as maybe a problem with the reader.”
