Should your son aspire to be an IB on the street,
few things he needs to know:
- An Ivy League university diploma may help him get into some of the largest full-service investment banks. However after landing a job on Wall Street, he has to work extremely hard in order to climb the career ladder.
- Working in the investment banks on Wall Street may make him to be prone to burning out because of demanding working conditions/performance and ferocious competition.
- If he decides to leave the firm for any conceivable reason, he can still find a less stressful job within financial sector, or start from the scratch. The experiences he gains from the street can still benefit him in the long run even he works in a different industry later and makes lesser money.
- General speaking, investment banks on Wall Street offer ample opportunities for their employees to make a good living. But just like in the fields of medicine, the places are crowded with the wannabes, dropouts and many champs.
Hopefully, those points above might make some sense to you. :)
