I have a niece in high school who wants to be rich. She is considering majoring in finance in college (her math SAT scores are ok, but not spectacular.) Any thoughts?

I've provided her this article that shows the cost/benefit analysis for attending certain schools, but is her proposed major a guaranteed path to riches? Thanks.

Here's some advice for your niece. Rasputin - Thu, Aug 10, 2017 - 06:47 PM She needs to seriously think about what being "rich" means. If she believes that having material wealth is the key to happiness, she is sorely misguided. Ryan Leaf, former NFL quarterback who had an epic fall and near-miraculous resurrection, as reported here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2017/04/25/nfl-draft-bust-ryan-leaf-san-diego-chargers-peyton-manning/100849980/ ...summed it up best when he said: "I was miserable when I was making five-million dollars a year, and now I'm happier than ever making fifteen-dollars per hour. So, may I make a suggestion to your niece? Have her view the movie "Peaceful Warrior", based on the real life experiences of Dan Millman--another athlete who found out what happiness is all about--and available here: https://www.amazon.com/Peaceful-Warrior-Widescreen-Scott-Mechlowicz/dp/B000QEIOSU Then, after watching this compelling flick, have your niece decide what's really important in life, and what's not. If she still wants to grab for that brass ring, then at least she will be making an informed decision. |
