A record-breaking 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted for adjudication at the regional level in the Awards' 29 categories, which include poetry, critical essay, flash fiction, short story, personal essay/memoir, journalism and more.  Out of those submissions, approximately 70,000 students received a regional award of a gold key, silver key or honorary mention.  Those students receiving a gold key award at the regional level had their works submitted to the national level.

There were 2200 students who received a national level award, with only sixteen students receiving the program's highest honor, the Gold Medal Portfolio (eight for art and eight for writing).
