Just heard one as a tenure-track Professional Staff Member with a BSEE to begin with:
Tenure review in 5 years(like an assistant prof.);
if passed, tenured with promotion to Sr. PSM(like an associate prof.); and
in 5 more years, another promotion to some director-level(like a full prof.).
With a good start pay(for 12 months vs. aP/AP/P's 9 months!) and benefits, this type of jobs seems ideal for long term.
The only problem is that of the whole IT dept at the big U, only 15% are tenured/T-Track.
