drama vs musical theatre

Like to register a class for my preteen girl. She is a little shy and I wish the class could give her more confidence on the stage. Now I have to choose a class between drama and musical theatre. Drama class is offered for 6-8 grades, she is in 6 grade. I am afraid since most of the kids will be older than her, she maybe more timidity. Musical threater class is for age 11-13. But drama class seems pay more attention to acting instead of singing. Any suggestion?
