We all know that it is typical for students to ask their teachers for recommendations when applying to colleges, applying for scholarships or jobs etc. There are instances that a teacher may ask students for recommendation letters as well.
My daughter was fortunate that she had been asked twice, by two different teachers. When she was in middle school, her Science Teacher approached her to write a student recommendation for "Teacher of The Year" competition. Later that year, her teacher won the Teacher of the Year award. To our surprise, the teacher asked her to intruduce her (the teacher) at the award banquet in front of over 300 teachers. Without hesitation, she accepted the invitation and prepared the speech all by herself. The emcee of the event jokingly said afterwards that now she knew who to hire as the next emcee.
Six years later, her AP Biology teacher asked her to write a student recommendation. I just read a tweet now that this teacher has won "Science Teacher of the Year".
She has promised a third teacher for a recommendation if and when the teacher is nominated next year. By then, she will be in college.
Her letters may or may not conbritute to the positve outcome. These experiences boost her confidence in public speaking, in interacting with diverse groups of people and expose her to social etiquette. On one hand, I ask my kids not to be a conformist, on the other hand, there are certain social etiquette that we must observe.
