I agree, wimpiano, the dealer might simply have misspoke rather than lied outright about the Wilhelm Schimmel line. When there are four (!) piano lines all sharing the name "Schimmel", it can get confusing for anyone.
This is a quote from the recent issue of "Piano Buyer" about the new Schimmel International and Wilhelm Schimmel lines:
"Other lines just released to dealers include Schimmel International (built in Germany, with parts sourced internationally) and Wilhelm Schimmel (to be assembled in the company's factory in Kalisz, Poland). ..... In 2002, Schimmel acquired the PianoEurope factory in Kalisz, Poland, a piano restoration and manufacturing facility. Schimmel at first used this factory to manufacture its Vogel brand, a moderately priced line named after the company's president. This line has now been replaced by the Wilhelm Schimmel brand. Schimmel says that although the skill level of the employees is high, lower wages and other lower costs result in a piano approximately 30 percent less costly than the Schimmel. Wilhelm Schimmel grand pianos feature full Renner actions, with other parts mainly made by Schimmel in Braunschweig, or by the Kalisz factory. The Wilhelm Schimmel pianos, though designed by Schimmel, don't have all the refinements and advanced features of the latest Schimmel models."
