  • Having lived and taught in Japan for a number of years, I can honestly (and sadly) say that they have never come to terms with their wartime past. School history books completely whitewash all their heinous acts and instead portray Japan as the "victim" due to the atomic bombings that ended the war. I just hope Jolie and the other principals behind this film don't release a re-edited "softer" version to appease the right-wing nationalists (as Jerry Bruckheimer did with "Pearl Harbor" with the Japanese pilots waving to the children of Hawaii).

    • My dad was a POW in Japan for 3 1/2 Years . He was starved beaten daily by the Japs that made him work as a slave laborer. He was a Marine guard on Corregidor the night MacArthur shoved off for Australia He was on guard duty and thought of shooting him. That would of changed history. He hated dug out Doug for leaving them But he hated the Japanese more He was #$%$ when all the families of Japanese relocation camps got $20000 for their so called suffering in 1991 He got nothing from Japan for his slave labor and beatings. Those families never got beaten or starved. Most were shipped to Colorado because the US feared a west coast attack and didn't trust the Japanese Americans . MacArthur made an agreement with Japan that US prisons could not sue for slave labor . As far as the A bomb goes, I would not be here if it was not dropped. My dad was going to be shot the week it dropped. The guards in the camp just ran off.
