Both my son and daughter play hockey for a few years now. At 7-8 years old, boys who played for at least 2 years perfprmed a lot better than the girls with also 2 years experience.
The key here is even at same age, players' skill levels are very much different. Our hockey organization has 16 teams with age 7-8 years old kids and each team has 17 players. It is very easy to have two extreme end teams playing aginst each other.
With the same skill level, boy's team is much faster and energetic than girl's team.
BTW, the girls who play hockey always have a strong family support and personnel desire to play. They are good players!
