laptop for 11th grade kid, brand? any suggestions? Thanks

We want to buy a laptop for 11th grade daughter (also for college next year),  what brand is better for college? Is Apple the most popular brand for college kid? Don't want to be too cheap or too expensive, just want to be average for common college kid. Any suggestions? Sorry can not type chines in this PC.
