我小时候，住大院，里面很多小孩子。有三个小孩子，（不包括我），是院子里面公认的好学生，他们从来不出来玩，每一分钟都在读书。甚至吃饭，挝屎都捧着本书。

这些大院里面公认的三个好学生，但在学校里，他们却成了差生，一个怀孕，一个留级，一个退学。

我这个不怎么读书的，却年年第一。我自己也很纳闷，专门分别去他们家拜访，发现怀孕的那个读的尽是言情小说，留级的那个读的都是武打小说，退学的那个读的都是小人书。

我那时（初中），就总结了，成绩如果是阅读时间的函数，成绩 = f（每天读书小时）

如果每天读书=0，肯定成绩 = f(0) = 0；

如果每天读书=16小时，就像那三个学生，那么成绩 = f(16) = 0；

所以每天读书小时在 0 到 16 之间，肯定存在一个极值！太少了不好，太多了也不好。

如果一本书，全部都看不懂，那么收获 = 0；

如果一本书，全部都看懂，那么也是收获 = 0；因为什么都没有学到，都懂了。

所以，一本书，全部都看不懂，不能读；全部都看懂，也不能读。

仔细研究，发现一本书，懂的多了，学不到什么。而不懂的多了，看不下去，也不行。为了收获最大，就是 x(1-x) 求极值。当然这是对最聪明勤奋的人。也就是懂 50%的情况最好，收获可以达到25%，学到一半不懂的知识。

当如对于不聪明，不勤奋的一般人，可以用 75% 看懂，25% 看不懂，收获 = 12%。

所以，各位家长注意了，你推小孩看书，一定要看小孩的书能读懂多少！如果读懂的不足50%，或超过 75%，赶快打住，不要读了。或太难，或太容易，小孩读了也白读。

有家长问，看harry potter好不好，我回答，那要看你小孩能读懂多少，还是那句话，小孩能读懂75%以上的，千万别看了。因为太容易了。就像我老家大院的，读言情的，读的太多，只有受孕这一条道了；读小儿画的，只有退学了。

除了这个相对尺度，我还总结了一套绝对尺度来衡量。把每个人的阅读能力按100分最高分划一下，看看你和你的小孩是多少分。

Toefl 30分的，算80分；
Toefl 25分的，算70分；
Toefl 20分的，算60分；
Toefl 15分的，算55分；

SAT 800分的，算90分；
GRE 800分的，算95分；

美国成年人平均在60-70分；

首先搞清你小孩多少分，不清楚的，我可以测试一下。

读什么书呢？

要读懂75%的书。所以我把所有的书也来百分一下：

harry potter the Sorcerer's stone: 44分；

harry potter the prisoner of Azkaban: 44分；

harry potter the chamber of secrets: 47分；

harry potter the half blood prince: 52分；

再看报纸：

最容易读的

USA today 60分；

美联社：62分；

华尔街报：67分；

纽约时报：70分；

路透社：73分；

你的孩子的可读范围是他/她的分数，加碱5分的阅读资料。这样才能保证他/她读懂率在 50%到75%，从而使得阅读水平得到最大的提高。

现在具体说说如何指导孩子选书，读书：

1）首先要测定你孩子的阅读分数，测试方法有简单的方法，也是复杂全面的方法。最简单的方法是，我制定了一个map图，从10分，15分，20分，25分到 95分，100分，给了相应的测试文章，举例如下：

90分的文章：

To such a class of things pertains corporeal nature in general, and its extension, the figure of extended things, their quantity or magnitude and number, as also the place in which they are, the time which measures their duration, and so on. That is possibly why our reasoning is not unjust when we conclude from this that Physics, Astronomy, Medicine and all other science which have as their end the consideration of composite things, are very simple and very general, without taking great trouble to ascertain whether they are actually existent or not, contain some measure of certainty and an element of indubitable.

如果你的孩子可以读懂这篇文章，那么就是具有了90分以上的实力，SAT阅读根本没有问题。

让我们再来看看SAT，GRE 文章的难度：

我分析的大量的SAT的文章难度，基本在60分-65分。

而GRE的文章难度，基本在65分-75分。

再举个50分的：

Lydia was a stout, well-grown girl of fifteen, with a fine complexion and good-humoured countenance; a favourite with her mother, whose affection had brought her into public at an early age. She had high animal spirits, and a sort of natural self-consequence, which the attentions of the officers, to whom her uncle’s good dinners

能读懂这篇文章的，就具备了50分以上的实力，但靠SAT还不够，大概只能有55%的正确率。

再贴一个15分：

He smacked the ball with the bat. The ball flew across the field. “Good;’ said Mr. Spano. “Great, Slugger!” I yelled. ‘’We’ll win every game. It was my turn next. I put on the helmet, and stood at home plate. “Ronald Morgan,” said Rosemary. “You’re holding the wrong end of the bat.” Quickly I turned it around. I clutched it close to the end. Whoosh went the first ball. Whoosh went the second one. Wham went the third. It hit me in the knee. “Are you all right?” asked Michael. But I heard Tom say, “I knew it. Ronald Morgan’s the worst.” At snack time, we told Miss Tyler about the team.

好了，你的孩子得到一个阅读分后，就可以正确的选择合适的书和文章了。如何得到一篇文章的难度分呢？只能寄给我来分析了。分析后，我把文章/书的难度分给你，看是否适合你的孩子。总之，一定要找到最适合你小孩水平的文章，不要难，也不要容易，就像我文章开头说的，读容易的文章，不仅学不到任何东西，反而可能还一不小心受精了。

只有读正好的文章（75%的难度），阅读能力才能提高。否则，就是白花力气。

全世界读harry potter的人几十亿，再读也提高不了水平，因为这个系列的难度只有40多点。有网友追问我harry potter读懂了多少，但我不觉得读懂了harry potter是什么自豪的事。对考SAT，起码毫无用处。我儿子SAT考了2400，他在harry potter上，没花过4个小时以上。
