I am a faculty in higher education in US. The number one issue for teenages in US is "fitting in." Many students don't like school because they could not make friends,or being bullied, made fun of, etc. Some of them play computer games to temoprarily "forget" the problems or difficulites, however, such behavior is usually misunderstood as "addition" which many experts don't agree with. Because there is a problem underneath that needs to be dealt with. 

So, I would suggest you to talk to the school counselor and ask for guidance or intervention. Second, guide your son (with the help of neighbors, school, or community) to make more friends.
