Cost of playing minor hockey

Don't know which area you are, in general hockey is an expensive sport.

For non-travel hockey, it should be cheaper. The cost of all gears is around $300-500 for entry level plus the training and game and ice rental. Our association charges $1000 for the season starting from September and ending in March.

For travel team, the cost is usually about $3000-$5000 depending the number of travelling and other team bonding activities. Personally, I believe travel team is better since it is not only dedicated to sport skills but also social skills. Even the parents became good friends from all the travel and bench sitting time.
