I have spent last 3 days (laterally day and night) countering outrageous Japanese claims all over youtube.
Here are some basic facts in English that I wanto share with you so that it hopefully will help you.
(1) Japanese Territorital Limits Under International Law
Japan accepted the Potsdam Decalaration unconditionally in her Instrument of Surrender in 1945. Hence she is bound by Article 8 of the said Declaration that restricts Japanese Sovereignty to her 4 home islands and minor islands as determined by Allied Powers.
Standard Jap response is that Allied Powers do not include China. You simply need to restate that China is one of the Allied Powers who promulgated and signed Postdam Declaration and no matter what Japs say, it does not change the fact that China was one of the Allied Power in WWII.
Jap would then attempt to use San Francisco Treaty by claiming that it superceded Potsdam Declaration. The correct response is that (a) SFT ended the formal state of war between Allies and Japan but it in no way releases Japan from her obligations under Potsdam Declaration and (b) SFT was a multlateral treaties formally ending the war between various Signaturies and Japan - but important parties to WWII, including Soviet Union (succeeded by the Russian Federation), ROC (succeeded by PRC) did not sign the SFT and (c) Unlike Potsdam Declaration that formed the UN Charter, SFT was neither adopted as a UN charter nor ratified by the General Assembly and hence no way carries the force of International Law. Hence there have been no Allies decision that grants Japan Sovereignty over any minor island. Therefore under International Law, Japan's territorial assertion on Diaoyudao is illegal and administrative control of Ruyuku suspect.
Jap usually then would follow up by stating that the U.S. reverted control of Okinawa to Japan per Okinawan Reversion Act. You can counter this argument by (a) stating that Ruyuku is the proper name and (b) US reverted administrative control (c) cite that Okinawan Reversion statute specifically did not include Diaoyutai/Senkaku and it was Nixon Government Policy, as stated by Secretary of State William Rogers that, "The United States believes that a return of administrative rights over those islands to Japan, from which the rights were received, can in no way prejudice any underlying claims. The United States cannot add to the legal rights Japan possessed before it transferred administration of the islands to us, nor can the United States, by giving back what it received, diminish the rights of other claimants... The United States has made no claim to the Senkaku Islands and considers that any conflicting claims to the islands are a matter for resolution by the parties concerned".
(2) Japanese Historical Claim on Diaoyutai
Specifically ask Japan to show any official Japanese maps incorporating Diaoyutai prior to 1894 - as they had none whatsoever. Japs would then claim that it was discovered Terra Nullus - meaning unoccupied in Latin. You can counter that numerous historical records exist of China making use Diaoyutai since Ming Dynasty. 三國通覽圖說in 1785 by Hayashi Shihei林子平, a renowned Japanese military scholar, mapped Diaoyu as part of China. Japs would typically counter that Hayashi's map also has shown Taiwan in a separate colour. You can counter it by pointing out that Hayashi's map was to show the 2 trade routes between Fujian and Ruyuku and different colours were used to distinguish Diaoyutai Islet from those controlled by Ruyuku Kingdom and it was no way used to demarcate Taiwan at all.
Japs would also typically attempt to cite pre-1945 documents from ROC in relation to Diaoyutai being under Japanese administration. You can easily counter that by pointing out that ROC, as the successor state to Qing Empire, was honour bound to observe Treaty of Shimonoseki. Treaty of Shimonoseki, was duly reversed by the Japanese unconditional acceptance of Potsdam Declaration.
(3) Border Disputes
Some Japs would then attempt to change topic by stating that China has numerous border disputes. You can immediately point out that China has settled all land dispute with her 14 land neighbours except India - whereas Japan is in dispute with all her neighbours - that's 100% of them.
There are more items to add when I think of them. Please also add your own contributions as well to create a comprehensive document for debating the Japs.
