Big Headache: No School Bus

We recently bought a new house which is only 1.8 miles away from a very good elementary school our kid attends. By the law, there is no school bus for families live within 2 miles of the school. As a result, we have to send and also pick up our kid very day. This creates a huge problem for us. If you are in the similar situation, I am wondering how you guys deal with this problem. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. (By the way, our kid does not like after school program.)
