it is back in the late 80s - early 90s, the friend was studying in ND. At that time the color prejudice he experienced was very severe - even the school cops. For a perieod of time, every week he was caught by the cop for different kinds of reasons - speeding, starting the car (not driving yet) without the seatbelt buckled, etc. He complained multiple times to school and his accusition was denied since there was no evidence. Finally he asked a friend to video tape what's happening and was able to defend his accusition. Furthermore, there were students spray painting his car, riding motorcycle and screaming around his house again and again at Saturday night......and of course the cops won't bother to take a look. Not a pleasant experience and he swore he'd never go back again once graduate. Hope things have changed nowadays. Forgot to mention, this is a person from middle east.
So paying a visit is a good idea. You can at least talk to other Chinese students and ask their experience.
