both 5th or 6th generation & fast forward to the 7th generation.
By doing so the Indians save tons of research funds on projects that will head nowhere. They can use the money to purchase 5/6th generation aircraft from the US/Russia instead. Meanwhile the Indians invest in project that no other countries can dream in decades.
