The north's navy was really in poor shape and they even did not maintain their weaponry in the submarine well. Their torpedo was so rusty at the time of launch. It must be a god help for such a rusty torpedo even to hit and destroy an anti-submarine ship. Or the water in the Yellow Sea is very erosive (because of pollution) to rust the weapon parts so fast even without the presence of much oxygen under water.
