Many year ago (in 1980's), I (as a young student) was waiting for bus at a Greyhound station. A Taiwanese mid-aged man came to sit beside me (only two Chinese in the big waiting room). Then we began to chat. After knowing I came from mainland, he said initially all the negative things about mainland (it was true that the mainland's economy was much much poorer than that of Taiwan). I could only encounter him with what the mainland has achieved in high tech and military power as well as the number of countries having diplomatic relations with mainland. When the conversation came to a dead lock, he then said three things Mao said being proud of himself: Expelled Lao Jiang to Taiwan, Won the Korean War and Had the Culture Revolution. Understandably, his facial expressions changed three times as he said the three things. First one - sad, second one - proud, and last one - unfriendly. But at least he was proud that the win of Korean war was the only one in the recent 100 years.
