The common practice is to heavily moisturize your face before applying foundation to ensure that your foundation goes on evenly and smoothly and last longer.

A makeup artist recently put tinted moisturizer on my already fondationed ( is there a such word? ) face, she thought it was bare skin. I didn't see any difference at the end of the day.
