fail to display license plate, your help is greatly appreciated.

我有一辆旧车，停在自家的门口，因为要donate掉，所以没有renew license plate. 不巧的是， donation process还没有完， 却受到了罚单 （fail to display license plate?）。

请问有没有人有类似经历？有没有可能免掉罚款？
