What one learns from books in school has really not much to do with one's success in life. Doing homeworks and getting a good grade is only the basics. For most of Chinese children, good GPA and high test scores are given. Pushing your child to get 100 more points on SAT or take one more AP really does not make much difference. If your goal is to have your child have a perfect SAT and take more AP or IB than everyone else, in my opinion, you are really hurting your child.
If you go ask the universities, they will tell you they look far beyond the GPA and test scores. In Stanford Freshman class opening ceremoney, the vice provost said: we admitted you because who you are and we believe in you to become who you want to be. The school plays the role of providng support and environment for you. (something like that).
Bottomline, getting good grades etc is good but that should not be your goal. Let your child develop their own uniqueness. You never know, from T & T he might learn a lot more while having fun. It is what they do outside the classroom that sets the best apart from the very good.
