I can see you acknowledge the status quo as the objective standard, which is what I meant low bar. Since he is in this status already, therefore anything better than this is rewardable. Not necessarily a bad thing for this particular situation, but I would not personally use this attitute to educate my kids. They are kids who need to know what is ideal situation in the first place.
