have you considered pet health insurance? this is just a thought. i purchased insurance for my puppy and it is well worth the money. especially during the first year, there were many vaccinations and the neutering. i saved lots of money with the insurance. now my puppy is almost 3 years old (still a puppy to me), he still needs annual vaccinations and comprehensive exams.
