I have read and heard many stories about dogs vs. ticks, but I have never really seen a dog tick until today. Yesterday I felt a lump on Jordan’s chin. I parted his hair and found a grotesque bump that had something looked like a sun flower seed sticking out. It felt hard yet soft the same time. My hu*****and and I were so baffled by this thing. We thought it might be a tick, but it looked nothing like what I had imagined. I am very bug-phobic so I did not even want to touch it. This morning the first thing I did was to bring Jordan to see a vet. After two long hours of waiting, finally we got diagnosed. It was a dog tick indeed. And judging from its size, it had been sucking on Jordan’s blood at least for couple of days already. It was one of the grossest bug I have ever seen. Now I think twice about eating sun flower seed.
I always check Jordan every time after the daily walk, especially in spring and autumn. However, his chin and collar area were ignored sometime. I just want to remind that all dog and cat owners that it is very important to check your babies after they have been to outside. Luckily, Jordan already has had his annual lime disease vaccine and monthly flea/tick prevention medicine. He never displayed any irregular behaviors, but I felt very lucky that I discovered the tick yesterday. Jordan is a very good sport the entire time. He got a big treat after he came home. :-)
Jordan’s Vet visit today.
