that if you don't finish the travel in the first leg of your return ticket, your second leg is automatically cancelled. I bet this policy is clearly stated at the back of your ticket if it is a paper ticket. The only thing that you can hope for is to get an understanding from the airline company. However I won't hold too much hope.
