It helps a lot if the parents know some music

In your case, you can guide your daughter to explore the wild varieties of music (as she has been learning 1/2hr x4 /week x1yr, she should be able to work on simple music pieces by herself). It does not do much good just to follow the teacher's repetorie. Chinese usually got teachers who stress on skills but not on music.
